Priscila Dantas de Moraes

Ph.D. Candidate in History of Art

Overview

Priscila is a PhD candidate in the History of Art and Archaeology track, and she studies the connections between science, art, and architecture from antiquity to the medieval period, with a focus on Roman and Byzantine contexts. Her dissertation examines late antique monuments and architectural practices through the lenses of intellectual history and the analysis of Greek, Latin, and Syriac scientific literature.  

She has previously presented her research in progress at the University of Oxford (Oxford Patristics Conference 2024) and the University of Freiburg (Hauskolloquium Klassische Archäologie), and in 2025, she joined the regular member program of the American School of Classical Studies in Athens. 

Before coming to Cornell University, Priscila studied History at the University of Campinas (BA/Licentiate) and the University of Paris (MA). She has also participated in excavations in Caesarea Maritima (2022) and Qasr Abdoun (2023)
