BASKERVILLE UNDERGRADUATE TRAVEL GRANT
Guidelines for applying and eligibility
 

Thanks to the generous support of the Estate of Charles Baskerville, History of Art & Visual Studies is delighted to offer eligible students travel support through the Baskerville Undergraduate Travel Grant. The purpose of these funds is to support student participation in summer experiences or to attend conferences related to their studies in History of Art. Summer experiences can include but are not limited to internships at museums, galleries, or auction houses, archaeological excavations, summer study in a specialty program (e.g. conservation studies), or other relevant professional and academic developmental programs.

Guidelines and Eligibility 

Eligibility for these awards is limited to History of Art majors in good academic standing. At the time of applying, students must either already be declared or indicate their intent and eligibility to declare the major by the end of the current academic year. Graduating seniors are not eligible to apply for summer funding, you must be an active Cornell student before and after the summer experience you are applying for in order to receive this grant. 
Students are welcome to apply for funds prior to acceptance into a summer program/conference however, formal acknowledgement of acceptance or participation in a summer program/conference is required for the dispersal of funds. This documentation must be submitted to the Undergraduate Coordinator as soon as it is received for the Baskerville Travel Grant award to be finalized and dispersed.
Funds requested for conference attendance must be to support the presentation of a paper or poster related to the major.

 

Funding Amounts

Funding amounts for summer experiences will typically not exceed $1,000.00. 
Funding amounts for conference travel will not exceed $400.00.

 

How to Apply

An application for funding includes:
-    A completed application form
-    A letter of support from your History of Art advisor. This letter should be submitted directly to the Undergraduate Coordinator, Dani Vander Horst (dmv43@cornell.edu).

Deadlines

Applications for Summer funds will open in early March (around the 1st) and close mid-April (around the 15th). 
Applications for conference funds will be accepted on a rolling basis.

 

Reporting

The Cornell University Accounting Office requires documentation for all awards. Students must therefore submit receipts of expenditures up to the amount awarded after their summer experience has concluded. 
The department also requires that students share their experiences with our community, providing a short paragraph and a photo to the Undergraduate Coordinator for communication purposes on our website, social media, and other venues.
