Overview

Ayesha is interested in photojournalistic practices and popular visual culture in the Indian subcontinent from the 19th century to the present day.

She holds degrees in Literature in English, Journalism, and Visual Studies from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi; Asian College of Journalism, Chennai; and Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, respectively.

In India, Ayesha has worked as an arts journalist with the Indian national daily The Hindu, Bangalore; as research scholar with the photography archive The Alkazi Foundation for the Arts, New Delhi; and as Communications Editor with the grantmaking organization India Foundation for the Arts, Bangalore. 

Recently, she was the John A. Hartell Graduate Intern (2021-22) and Curatorial Assistant in Asian Art (Summer 2022) at the Herbert F Johnson Museum of Art, Cornell University.
