The Pulse of Art History with Jessica Martinez

Join the Director of Cornell's Johnson Museum of Art for a discussion of museum work from a behind-the-scenes perspective, with a focus on how the actions and decisions of museum professionals have the potential to move the field forward. Every day, key issues relating to the ethics of collections care and the urgency of more inclusive practices play out in museum spaces. In this talk Martinez invites Cornell alumni working in museums across the country—from curators and conservators to exhibition designers and collections managers—to reflect on how their work is shaping the museum of the future, now.

Jessica Levin Martinez is the Richard J. Schwartz Director of the Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art at Cornell University. She is a leading advocate for museum-based interdisciplinary teaching with global collections. Prior to joining Cornell in 2019, she directed academic and public programs at Harvard Art Museums and the Smithsonian National Museum of African Art, and taught museum practice and art history at George Washington University and the University of Chicago. She holds a PhD in History of Art & Architecture from Harvard University and is a member of the Association of Art Museum Directors.
