The canon of American art often erases the histories of Indigenous peoples of North America. So how do we shift museum and art historical representations? This conversation between Jami Powell of the Hood Museum of Art and Jolene Rickard of Cornell University considers these questions as well as issues of sovereignty and self-determination in North American Indigenous art. Jami Powell is Associate Curator of Native American Art at the Hood Museum of Art and an advisor on the museum’s New Early American Galleries. Jolene Rickard is Associate Professor in the History of Art and Art Departments at Cornell University.
The program is 60 minutes, including time for Q&A. It is being recorded. A link to the recording will be shared with all registrants the next day.
