Jolene Rickard, History of Art Associate Professor, presented at CAA’s 2021 virtual conference with her talk, titled: “Ecofeminism is Ancient in the Americas.” The panel also included, Macarena Gómez-Barris, Pratt Institute – Edging Closer: Beyond the Colonial Anthropocene and Cecilia Vicuña (closing keynote), Independent Artist – An Ancient Silence Waiting to be Heard
This panel foregrounded Indigenous ecologies, land rights, and extractivism. Jolene focused on the role that Indigenous art plays in the transformation of place-based knowledge as a baseline for challenging ecological ruptures.
