PhD Candidate Lauren van Haaften-Schick and Associate Professor Dr. Cheryl Finley co-author article

PhD Candidate Lauren van Haaften-Schick and Associate Professor Dr. Cheryl Finley have co-authored an Op-Ed article for Artnet.com, “The Recent Sale of Amy Sherald’s ‘Welfare Queen’ Symbolizes the Urgent Need for Resale Royalties and Economic Equity for Artists.” The article highlights the need for innovative forms of “resale equity” in the art market. It was inspired by the November 2021 auction sale of a painting by Amy Sherald, the artist renowned for portraits of Michelle Obama and Breonna Taylor. They are joined by two additional co-authors, Christian Reeder (MA Candidate, SAIC) and Dr. Amy Whitaker (Assistant Professor of Arts Administration, NYU).

'There are creative ways that collectors, auction houses, and artists can collaborate to build a system of "resale equity."'
