Olivia Kim, a History of Art major in the Class of 2026, recently presented original research conducted while interning at the Johnson Museum of Art with Dr. Alison Rittershaus at the annual meeting of the American Society of Overseas Research in Boston, MA. Olivia remarks on her experience below.

As Dr. Rittershaus' intern in the Education Department at the Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art, this project combined Dr. Rittershaus' background in ancient art and archaeology and my internship research on university-alumni relations (and the history of university museums at large). Looking at the provenance policies and research specific to the Johnson, our presentation highlighted the benefits of teaching and discussing provenance in museum settings, as well as the institutional and financial support museums require from donors for this intensive work.
As someone who is considering post-graduate education, the conference gave me a glimpse into the type of research that takes place at the graduate-level. It was great fun to listen to presentations ranging from museum literacy at the Harvard Art Museums to findings from the Persian Hellenistic Administrative Building (PHAB) at Kadesh, topics that I do not always get to learn about in the classroom.
