The second and final phase of MAHASSA (Modern Art Histories in and across Africa, South and Southeast Asia), took place at the fifth Dhaka Art Summit, in February 2020. This was an intensive ten-day convening with twenty outstanding emerging scholars from around the world, along with a team of leading international faculty, and several guest speakers.

The Principal Investigator of the MAHASSA program is Iftikhar Dadi. Faculty and organizers included Elizabeth W Giorgis (University of Addis Ababa) (PhD History of Art), Salah Hassan, Ming Tiampo (Carleton University), Simon Soon (University of Malaya), Sanjukta Sunderason (University of Leiden), John Tain (Asia Art Archive) and Diana Campbell (Dhaka Art Summit). The program was made possible as a collaboration between Cornell University, Dhaka Art Summit, and Asia Art Archive. It was awarded generous support from Getty Foundation’s Connecting Art Histories initiative.
