SPRING 2020
ARTH 4698/ 6698 Legal Issues in the Arts
A. Kim
W 2:30 – 4:25
This course explores the relationship between modern art, politics, and the law. The seminar will focus primarily on two major topics in art law, freedom of expression and intellectual property, while also introducing students to legal issues arising from the contemporary art market. The course will provide students with a fundamental doctrinal background in the legal issues being covered, and as such, course readings will be drawn heavily from relevant case law. Supplemental readings will be drawn from scholarship in the fields of legal theory, constitutional law, IP law, and art history.
